Types of Universities

There are basically 2 types of educational institutions in Australia

  • Private Colleges: These are basically those colleges which are not affiliated to any universities and they have their CRICOS code. They offer bachelors and master’s degree with almost all the major popular discipline. For example, Excelsia College.

Intakes

For major intakes February and July are considered. In this intake almost all the courses are offered by all the universities and private colleges. For minor intakes October/November/May are considered. In minor intake courses are offered by private colleges and some of the major universities.

Academic Entry Requirement

Entry requirement for UG courses is of 60%-90% in HSC. For pathways UG it is 55%-65% in HSC. Entry requirement for PG is of 50%-75% in graduation.

English language requirement

 It is mandatory to have English proficiency test done at the time of applying to Australian Universities. Some of the English proficiency test accepted in these universities are IELTS, PTE etc. For UG course mostly IELTS requirement is of overall 6.5 band with no and less than 6. For PG courses overall IELTS requirement is of 6 with no band less than 5.5.

Part Time Work

Students can work part time of 48hours/fortnight during their study. Student can work full 48hrs/week during semester break and vacations. Students are generally paid around 24.10 AUD per hour.

Post study work visa

In major cities like Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane duration of post study work visa is of 2 years for UG and 3 years for PG. In category 2 regional area like Adelaide, Parth, Newcastle post study work visa is up to 3 years for UG and up to 4 years for PG programs. In category 3 regional areas like Launceston, Toowoomba post study work visa is of up to 4 years for UG and up to 5 years for PG program.

Scholarships

Majority of Australian Universities offers good scholarships to the international students. Depending on the scores, students may get scholarships anywhere from 10%-30% of the tuition fees.
